Correlation between Helicobacter pylori infection and bone in men

  •   Objective  To investigate the status of Helicobacter pylori infection and bone-related indicators in men and their correlation.
Methods  A data of patients performed examination of Helicobacter pylori, and bone related indexes such as vitamin D and alkaline phosphatase in our physical examination center were retrospectively analyzed. The subjects were divided into Helicobacter pylori-negative group and Helicobacter pylori-positive group. The correlation between Hp infection and bone mineral density, vitamin D, alkaline phosphatase were analyzed.
Results  Out of 443 males tested for Helicobacter pylori, the positive detection rate was 32.05%. There were significant differences in bone mineral density and vitamin D between the two groups (P < 0.05), but no significant difference in alkaline phosphatase (P>0.05).
Conclusion  The Hp infection may be related to bone density and vitamin D, but it can not be considered to be related to alkaline phosphatase.
