Effect of correction surgery in improvement of visualfunction in 60 children with intermittent exotropia

  •   Objective  To explore effect of correction surgery in improvement of visual function in children with intermittent exotropia.
Methods  A total of 60 children with intermittent exotropia were selected as observation group, another 60 children with normal visual function who underwent physical examination in ophthalmology department of our hospital in the same period were selected as control group. Quality of life was evaluated by Child Intermittent Exotropia Questionnaire(Child-IXTQ) one day before and at three months in the observation group and during physical examination in the control group. Quality of life and the improvement of visual function were compared.
Results  The total score of child IXTQ, social psychological score, and visual function score in normal vision children were higher than that in the observation group (P < 0.05). The total score of Child-IXTQ, social psychological score, visual function score at 3 months after operation were higher than that that at 1 d before operation(P < 0.05), and were still lower than that of the normal children(P < 0.05).
Conclusion  Correction surgery can improve visual function and enhance quality of life of children with intermittent exotropia.
