Correlation between levels of serum procollagen Ⅲ N-terminal peptide and galectin 3 and cardiac function in elderly patients with intractable heart failure

  • Objective To explore the correlation between levels of serum procollagen Ⅲ N-terminal peptide(PⅢNP)and galectin 3(Gal-3)and cardiac function in elderly patients with intractable heart failure. Methods The clinical materials of 95 elderly patients with intractable heart failure were retrospectively analyzed. According to the cardiac function classification criteria of New York Heart Disease Association(NYHA), 59 patients with grade Ⅲof cardiac function were included in group A, and 36 patients with grade IV of cardiac function were included in group B. The general situation questionnaire was designed to collect the general data(gender, age, complications, body mass index, smoking history), serum PⅢNP and Gal-3 levels in both groups. The correlation between levels of serum PⅢNP and Gal-3 and cardiac function in elderly patients with intractable heart failure was analyzed by Spearman method. Results There was no significant difference in the general data between two groups(P>0.05). Levels of serum PⅢNP and Gal-3 in group A were significantly lower than those in group B(P<0.05). Serum PⅢNP and Gal-3 levels were positively correlated with cardiac function grading in elderly patients with intractable heart failure(r=0.429, 0.424, P<0.05). Conclusion The levels of serum PⅢNP and Gal-3 are positively correlated with the severity of cardiac function in elderly patients with intractable heart failure.
