Objective To observe the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine named Yufa Lotion in the treatment of androgenic alopecia(AGA)by combining the clinical symptoms and trichoscopy system.
Methods A total of 56 patients with AGA were randomly divided into observation group(n=39)and control group(n=17) according to lottery method. The observation group was given topical treatment with traditional Chinese medicine named Yufa Lotion, and the control group was given a blank lotion for external use. Both groups used the corresponding lotion continuously for 6 months. The objective indicators(total hair shaft count, hair shaft diameter variation, hair shaft diameter variation rate, scalp inflammation) under trichoscopy in three fixed observation areas (frontal angle, Baihui, and hairpin) before and after 3 months of treatment, clinical subjective symptoms integral (scalp itching, scalp oil secretion, dandruff) were compared, the therapeutic effects of traditional Chinese medicine named Yufa Lotion in the treatment of AGA were analyzed, and the safety of traditional Chinese medicine named Yufa Lotion in the treatment of AGA was evaluated. The incidence of adverse reactions of two groups was compared.
Results After treatment, the observation group was significantly better than the control group in terms of variation ratio of hair shaft diameter in left frontal angle forehead, the number of hair shaft diameter variation in Baihui and the variation ratio of hair shaft diameter in Baihui of the observation group were significantly lower than before treatment (P < 0.05). The total number of hair shafts, the number of hair shaft diameter variations, and the hair shaft diameter variation ratio of the left frontal angle, Baihui, and hairpin showed no significant differences compared with those before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the effective rates of scalp inflammation, scalp itching and scalp oil secretion in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There were no adverse reactions in the observation group and the control group during the treatment period.
Conclusion The treatment of AGA with traditional Chinese medicine named Yufa Lotion can reduce the number of hair shaft diameter variation, decrease the hair shaft diameter variation ratio, significantly improve scalp inflammation, relieve itching, reduce scalp oil secretion. Besides, it is convenient and safe, and has no obvious adverse reactions.
