Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effect of high doses of simvastatin in treating elderly patients with hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Methods A total of 84 elderly patients with hypertension combined with hyperlipidemia were selected and divided into two groups by random number table method. The control group(n=42)orally administrated small dose of simvastatin(20 mg, once daily), while the observation group(n=42)was given high dose of simvastatin(40 mg, once daily)for oral administration. Blood pressure, blood lipid, efficacy and incidence of adverse reactions of two groups were compared. Results There were no significant differences in blood pressure, triglyceride(TG), total cholesterol(TC), low-density lipoprotein(LDL-C)and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)between the two groups before treatment(P>0.05). After treatment, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure in the observation group were(116.82±11.46)mmHg and(86.13±7.62)mmHg, respectively, which were significantly lower than(124.72±12.06)mmHg and(90.36±6.05)mmHg in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment, TG, TC, LDL-C levels were significantly lower than those of control group, and HDL-C level was significantly higher than that of control group(P<0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group(95.24%versus 78.57%, P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion High doses of simvastatin in treating elderly patients with hypertension and hyperlipidemia can significantly regulate the level of blood lipid, reduce the level of blood pressure, and improve curative efficacy, and it has higher safety.
