Abstract
Objective To investigate the changes of brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity(baPWV), hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP), lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2(LP-PLA2)as well as oxidative stress indexes in elderly patients with essential hypertension(EH)and their significance. Methods A total of 170 elderly patients with EH were divided into sclerosis group(n=80)and control group(n=90). The levels of baPWV, hs-CRP, LP-PLA2, superoxide dismutase(SOD), malondialdehyde(MDA)and blood lipid in the two groups were compared, and the correlations among baPWV, hs-CRP, LP-PLA2, SOD and MDA were analyzed. Results Serum triglyceride(TG), total cholesterol(TC), low density lipoprotein-cholestero(LDL-C), baPWV, hs-CRP, LP-PLA2 and MDA in the sclerosis group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). The serum SOD level of the sclerosis group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P< 0.05). In the elderly EH patients with carotid atherosclerosis, baPWV, hs-CRP, LP-PLA2 and MDA presented significant positive correlations with intima-media thickness(IMT), while SOD and IMT presented a significant negative correlation. Conclusion In the elderly EH patients with carotid atherosclerosis, the levels of baPWV, hs-CRP, LP-PLA2 and MDA are increased and SOD is decreased, which may promote the development of carotid atherosclerosis.
