Application of failure mode and effect analysis model in management of neurosurgical dynamical system

  • Objective 

    To investigate the application value of failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) model in reducing the failure rate of neurosurgical dynamic system.

    Methods 

    The failure conditions of neurosurgical dynamic system in our hospital from March to August in 2020 and March to August in 2021 were retrospectively analyzed, and the conditions of failures of neurosurgical dynamic system were compared before and after the implementation of FMEA management.

    Results 

    Compared with effect before the implementation of FMEA management, the scores of risk priority number (RPN) of failure modes such as improper clinical medical operation, non-standard operation of disinfection supply center, insufficient repair and maintenance of equipment department, defects of operation process, and equipment failure to locate and track were significantly reduced after the implementation of FMEA management (P < 0.05).

    Conclusion 

    For the management of neurosurgical dynamical system, application of FMEA model can reduce the failure rate of dynamical system, and improve the quality and safety of operation.
