  • Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is a kind of RNA with a length of more than 200 nucleotides, which does not have the ability to encode proteins, and plays an important role in the development of cancer. LncRNAs are involved in various gene regulatory processes such as transcription, post-transcriptional modification, chromatin modification and epigenetic modification, and are the most important participants in biological processes such as cell cycle, cell differentiation and development, and cell pluripotency. As one of the most widely studied lncRNAs, metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript-1 (MALAT1) is highly expressed in colorectal cancer. Studies have shown that MALAT1 and its single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) play important roles in the occurrence and development of colorectal cancer, and can be used as targets for clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of colorectal cancer. This article reviewed the current status of research on lncRNA MALAT1 in colorectal cancer.
