Value of serum CRP and PA levels in diagnosis and treatment of neonatal infections

  • Objective To investigate value of serum levels of c-reactive protein (CRP)and prealbumin (PA)in diagnosis and treatment of neonatal infections. Methods 92 children with neonatal infections were divided into group A (infection group)and group B (infection group). Blood CRP and PA levels at different stages of infectious diseases were detected in order to determine the illness and anti-infection treatment. Results The serum CRP in bacterial infection group was obviously higher than that of infection group, and PA was significantly lower than the infection group(P <0.05).With continuing of treatment, children in infection group had a reduction in serum CRP and increasing in PA.Before treatment and 3 days after treatment, there were signifi-cant differences in infection group(P <0.05),and there was no significant difference of testing re-sults of 7 days after treatment between two groups(P >0.05).Conclusion The dynamic changes of the serum levels of CRP and PA not only can be used as a sensitive index of the diagnosis of neonatal bacterial infections, but also can be used to observe and evaluate the efficacy of treatment for infectious diseases.
