Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of new intramedullary interlocking nail for fixation of distal tibial fractures. Methods A retrospective analysis of 62 patients with fractures of the distal tibial bone with a distance of below 4 cm from the site of distal tibia fracture to the articular surface was performed. All the patients were given new intramedullary locking nail and distal interlocking nail for the treatment that 1 to 2 locking nails with diameter of 5.1 mm were precisely placed at the distal tibia fracture sites. Postoperative distal tibia fracture healing and complications conditions were observed during the follow-up. Results The 54 patients were followed up for 1 year to 2 years, with an average of(13.2±2.1)months. All patients with fractures were healed, healing time was 4 to 10 months, with an average of(5.2±0.4)months. There were no deaths after the operation, and no complications such as osteomyelitis, fracture deformity healing, intramedullary nail rupture, and loose locking nails occurred. Superficial wound infection occurred in 2 cases and was cured by symptomatic treatment. No fracture occurred in 34 patients after removal of the internal fixation. Conclusions New intramedullary locking nail in the treatment of distal tibial fractures has definite efficacy.
