Objective To investigate and preliminarily analyze intravenous drug therapy in department of orthopedics of Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to School of Medicine of Nanjing University.
Methods A total of 156 patients who were discharged from the department of orthopedics in August 2018 were randomly selected as research objects. The conditions of intravenous drug treatment and usage during hospitalization were recorded.
Results The proportion of patients receiving intravenous administration during hospitalization was 88.46%, the ratio of intravenous administration time to hospital stay was 7:16, and the average types of average intravenous administration of drugs were (8.40±4.30) types per day. Intravenous drugs with the high utilization rates in the orthopedic department were antibiotics (48.08%), proton pump inhibitors (72.44%), analgesics (80.13%), adjuvant drugs (78.21%), crystal/colloid solution (44.20%), and 40 patients (25.64%) used 5 drugs simultaneously.
Conclusion Department of Pharmacy of Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to School of Medicine of Nanjing University has a high rate of intravenous administration and a long course of treatment. Patients are treated with intravenous administration at least half of the time during hospitalization, and are given excess drugs by intravenous administration.
