Correlations between serum uric acid, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide, vasostatin-2 and left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with chronic heart failure

  • Objective To explore the correlations between serum uric acid(UA), N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP), vasostatin-2(VS-2)and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)in patients with chronic heart failure(CHF). Methods According to cardiac function classification standard of the New York Heart Association(NYHA), 160 patients with CHF were divided into grade Ⅰ group, grade Ⅱ group, grade Ⅲ group and grade Ⅳ group, with 40 cases in each group. The levels of UA, NT-proBNP, VS-2 and LVEF were compared among the four groups, and the correlations between serum UA, NT-proBNP, VS-2 and LVEF were analyzed. Results In the grade Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ groups, the levels of NT-proBNP and UA increased gradually while the levels of VS-2 and LVEF decreased gradually, and there were significant differences among the four groups(P<0.05). Correlation analysis showed that serum VS-2 was positively correlated with LVEF(r=0.664, P=0.001), and serum NT-proBNP as well as UA levels were negatively correlated with LVEF(r=-0.645, -0.518, P=0.002, 0.005). Conclusion Serum UA, NT-proBNP and VS-2 levels can effectively reflect the cardiac function and disease progression of CHF patients, and are significantly correlated with LVEF.
